Instructional Consultant Group (ICG) offers faculty development workshops and consultations throughout the year. The workshops help faculty advance innovative teaching and assessment practices by focusing on five broad areas: teaching and learning in large courses; effective communication; information and data literacy; teaching and learning in minority-serving institutions, and engaged assessment.
OTL Consultant Principles
The ICG consultation activities, assessment practices, and pedagogical initiatives reflect the following research-based principles. They are:
Grounded in listening
OTL fosters a collaborative environment by actively listening to and incorporating perspectives of instructors, staff, and students, recognizing expertise, experience and disciplinary contexts.
Informed by reflection and assessment
OTL encourages regular self-reflection among educators and students, paired with continuous assessment to refine and enhance teaching and learning.
Designed to increase equity
OTL’s activities are designed to promote inclusivity, fairness, and equality of opportunities.
Asset-based
OTL instructional activities recognize and leverage the strengths and capabilities inherent in students, faculty, and staff.
Data-driven
OTL uses multiple types of research and data to inform campus discussions, choices, strategies, and improvements to teaching and learning.
