Teaching Programs


 

The Office of Teaching and Learning hosts ongoing programs for UCSB faculty dedicated to developing interdisciplinary, innovative, and equitable teaching. 

Arnhold Faculty Fellowships and Arnhold Summer Courses support faculty development of innovative courses as part of the Arnhold Arts and Humanities Commons. 

The ONDAS Seminar and RISE Teaching Institute foster student-centered and asset-based approaches to course design that help empower students in the classroom.

 

Arnhold Faculty Fellowships

Announced bi-annually in Fall, Arnhold Faculty Fellows provide intellectual leadership for the Arnhold Arts and Humanities Commons (AAHC), including course development and programming. Fellows receive a two (academic) year appointment, which includes a two course teaching reduction, an annual summer stipend, and funding for programming, administrative support, and undergraduate research for each year of the fellowship.

Arnhold Summer Courses

Announced annually in Fall, Arnhold Summer Courses are an opportunity to develop innovative, team-taught, 5 or 8 unit interdisciplinary courses. Faculty receive summer sessions salary, a stipend for course development, TA support (with TA stipends), and funding for course activities.

Online Course Development Grants

UCSB faculty may apply for four separate online course development grants. Faculty members are strongly encouraged to work with an Office of Teaching and Learning Instructional Consultant to review grant guidelines, eligibility, and for assistance with drafting/reviewing proposals and budgets.

Online and Hybrid Grants

Open to Senate faculty or teams of Senate faculty and unit 18 lecturers. 

Call for proposals are open multiple times per year. Courses must be offered within 18 months of receiving funding.

Funding is typically around $18,000 inclusive of 8K faculty stipends.

Teaching Mini-Grants

Open to all ranks of instructors, and teams of instructor(s) and graduate student(s).

Call for proposals are accepted year round until yearly allocated funds are exhausted.

Funding of up to $3000 is available for technology innovations and updates of undergraduate courses.

Summer Online Grants

Open to faculty and continuing lecturers who teach during the academic year.

Call for proposals are offered annually in Spring. Individuals who propose the course need teach it for a minimum of two Summers.

Funding is typically around $18,000 inclusive of 8K faculty stipends.

UC Online Grants

Must include faculty from multiple UC campuses, but can also include other institutions.

Call for proposals are offered annually in January, and have been focused on DEI, though the specific theme can change from year to year.

Funding is typically around $40,000 inclusive of all campuses.

This program from Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities (URCA) offers $350 in funds three times per year for supporting undergraduate researchers in the College of Letters and Sciences.
